We help children with immigrant backgrounds by promoting their language development
Early childhood education: early language development for young children
Many institutions that offer social integration and language instruction also provide professional child care to the children of parents with immigrant backgrounds. And yet, these children were often not given language instruction themselves, despite the importance of such instruction.
Dr. Theodor Weimer presents a check for € 400,000 to Mayor Christian Ude, to be used for social integration projects in Munich.
In Munich, more than 50% of children six years old or younger have an immigrant background. More than half of children attending school require language instruction. Insufficient knowledge of German is one of the main reasons why 20% of youths with an immigrant background drop out of secondary modern school. This new project provides language learning assistance to children in 20 of 44 schools.
buntkicktgut – Street Soccer League
The buntkicktgut – Street Soccer League has been helping children and youths with immigrant backgrounds since 1997. Through sports, the children and youths who participate in this programme learn the lesson that mutual tolerance and fairness are necessary for peaceful and productive co-existence.
The buntkicktgut – Street Soccer League has promoted intercultural understanding since 1997
The exemplary success of the buntkicktgut programme has been recognised in the form of numerous awards. In 2000, Munich Mayor Christian Ude presented the “Munich Lichtblicke” Award in recognition of the league’s dedicated stance against hostility and violence against foreigners. In 2002, German Federal President Johannes Rau presented buntkicktgut with the winning award in the Social Integration Contest. The honorary patron of the buntkicktgut-League is legendary goalkeeper Oliver Kahn.
Coaching is provided at various locations by volunteers and freelance workers. Thanks to the additional support provided by HypoVereinsbank, a big international street soccer tournament featuring 32 teams was held in 2009 in the training complex of professional soccer team FC Bayern Munich. This event was sponsored by Uli Hoeneß, President of FC Bayern Munich.
